Finds from Andøya: shoes

I live on the island where the Skjoldehamn find was made, and the last year has been very exciting with several leather finds. There is a hobby archeologist who lives close by a very old settlement where I've heard stories of people finding old objects while gardening. He keeps his findings in a tiny local museum, and when visiting with a viking friend, we were asked to deliver some of the finds to Tromsø museum.

While I want to have a proper museum take care of the whole collection, we decided to bring all the soft organics with us as they are more vulnerable to deterioration. So we drove away with bits of maybe six shoes, a woolen fabric fragment and a bone spoon, and a feeling of pure wonder of what just happened.

We can't be sure when these findings are from yet, but no matter if they are #vikingage or #medieval or more recent, looking at them firsthand was awe-inspiring. Sharing the pictures we took of the finds. If you've seen other finds that look like these, or can help put a date on them, please comment!
